]]> The American Royal Association, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been a Kansas City tradition since 1899, celebrates our region’s rich agricultural heritage through competition, education and entertainment. As a not-for-profit community volunteer based organization, the American Royal raises funds to fulfill its vision and mission though endowments, contributions, sponsorships and event revenues.

Its purpose is to provide scholarship, education, awards and competitive learning experiences that reward hard work, leadership skills and agrarian values.  The American Royal, one of Kansas City’s premier fall events, annually hosts the World’s largest barbecue contest, one of the Midwest’s largest and oldest livestock exhibitions and professional rodeos, prestigious horse shows and is home of the National Championship Saddlebred horse competition. During September, October and November, more than 270,000 people attend the American Royal events. In addition to its educational mission, the American Royal generates some $70 million of economic impact, $4.4 million in local tax revenues, and supports 450 jobs.

]]> Schaake’s is a working farm and with a 24-acre pumpkin patch.  Their hayride takes their guests to pick their own pumpkins right off of the vine.  They have 35 varieties of pumpkins!  They also have lots of animals to see.  There is a hay maze made of big round bales and a straw romp for our younger guests.  They even have concessions available.

Activities include pick-your-own-pumpkins, hayrides, a hay maze, the straw romp, farm animals for viewing, and a photo area.  As a part of their field trips, each child will get a hayride to and from the pumpkin patch where they can pick their own pumpkin.  The maze, straw romp, etc., can be done afterwards, and they can spend as much time there as they like.  All groups should call ahead for reservations & prices.

They have 35 varieties of pumpkins ranging from 1/2 lb. to 200+ lbs., gourds, squash, Indian corn, corn shocks, straw, fall crafts such as painted birdhouse gourds, Indian corn wreaths and fall decorations such as painted pictures of pumpkins and gourds.

HillOween 2012 – Costume & Cocktails for a Cause will benefit the The Children’s SPOT at St. Luke’s Hospital.  HillOween will be held at the Starlight Theatre Stage House.  Zombies take over HillOween 2012!
