Kansas City, Here I Come

By Colton Crook

Moving to a new city can be an exciting and fun part of your life. At the same time, it can be terrifying, as it was in a situation like mine, moving to a place where I knew very few people, very little about the city and the surrounding area, and next to nothing about even the most basic things (like where to grab lunch or a cold beer after work).

Being from the St. Louis area, adjusting to Kansas City life hasn’t been too terribly outrageous (although I’m still getting used to the fact that people say “pop” instead of “soda” here). However, being on the Production Team at FINDitKC has really enhanced the process of getting to know the area. I’ve had the opportunity to experience first hand a lot of Kansas City’s staple businesses, not only from a customer perspective, but from a behind-the-scenes viewpoint as well.

For example, I’ve been able to experience (and taste!) a lot of delicious food in the Kansas City area, including The Rub BBQ and Blanc Burger + Bottles to name a few. These businesses were just a couple of our “FINDit Feature” showcases that we started a few weeks prior to the All Star game to introduce “out of towners” to several Kansas City staples when it comes to food. Both of those shoots ended with a meal at the establishments and both were delicious! If it hadn’t been for FINDitKC, it would have taken me much longer to discover these places.

Food hasn’t been the only thing I’ve experienced so far. Just the other day, I went to a shoot over at Mind In Motion (which incorporates techniques like acupressure, chiropractic, massage, breathing and meditation to help utilize parts of the brain that you never knew you could use). It’s unique businesses like these that have made getting to know the area so fun, and I’m glad that I’ve been able to showcase them and get the word out to friends and fellow Kansas City residents.

The more I discover about Kansas City, the more I learn that there are so many different places I want to experience! And the great part is, KC offers such a wide variety of services, places to eat, locations for shopping, things to do, and even options for living. FINDitKC has helped me to better see what Kansas City has and I’m excited to continue to explore. Finding new places and trying new things not only benefits me, but enables me to show both established KC residents and those new to our area some of the greatest businesses around.
